The training, conducted by Lakshmi K S, General Secretary of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Karnataka, was held on October 4, 2020, at Hotel Shri Krishna Nandagokula in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru. Forty garment workers, of whom 39 were women workers, participated in the training. The session covered various pertinent topics: The increase in domestic violence against women during the Covid-19 pandemic. The correlation between domestic violence and patriarchal values, particularly as women lose income and are perceived as ‘less productive’ family members. Using storytelling and folk songs, participants learned about the discrimination faced by widows, single women, rape victims, and victims of domestic violence, as well as other forms of verbal, mental, and physical violence.
