Consultation on the Well-being of Women Garment Workers – Tumkur

We organised a Consultation on the Well-being of Women Garment Workers on 25 February 2026 in Tumkur. The consultation brought together representatives from women’s organisations, community-based groups, welfare institutions, civil society organisations, and individuals working closely with women and families.

The consultation created a shared space to reflect on the everyday realities faced by women garment workers and their families, including workplace pressures, access to social security, health and safety concerns, childcare needs, and family well-being. Participants shared ground-level experiences and discussed how migration, insecure employment, and limited awareness of entitlements continue to affect women workers.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of confidence-building, peer leadership, and community-based support systems. Experiences were shared on how counselling, awareness programmes, and linking families to welfare schemes can help women workers feel more secure and supported, both at work and at home.

Participants emphasised the need for stronger coordination between government departments, local institutions, civil society organisations, and worker groups to improve access to welfare services and ensure safer and more dignified working conditions. The consultation reaffirmed that strengthening family stability, childcare support, and social protection is essential for enabling women workers to voice their concerns with confidence.

Munnade expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for their time, presence, and thoughtful contributions. The organisation looks forward to continued engagement and collaboration to strengthen caring, inclusive, and responsive support systems for women garment workers and their families in Tumkur and across Karnataka.
