Sumithra Acharya

Mrs. Sumitra Acharya completed her B.A. LL.B. from Mangalore University in 1997 and her LL.M. from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in 2000. From 2000 to 2002, she worked as a Senior Research Assistant to Ms. Flavia Agnes, Senior Advocate, High Court of Bombay.

She subsequently served as a Research Assistant at various centres of NLSIU from 2002 to 2006. During this period, she assisted the Centre for Women and Law, National Law School of India University, on a UNICEF-supported project to draft a Manual for the Judiciary to Combat Trafficking of Women and Children for Commercial Sexual Exploitation (accessible at http://wcd.nic.in/Judicial%20Manual.pdf).

In 2017–18, she undertook research on the Reproductive Rights of Women with Disabilities in selected districts of Karnataka and Odisha as part of a research project carried out by the Centre for Women and Law and funded by the National Commission for Women, New Delhi.
