Empowering Women Workers Through Awareness and Welfare Education

On 16 November 2025, Munnade Social Organisation, conducted an awareness programme on labour laws and factory entitlements at Gyanavahini Public School in Nandini Layout, Bangalore. The three-hour session brought together 30 women garment workers.

The session introduced workers to key labour laws—including the Minimum Wages Act, Wages Act, ESI Act, Gratuity Act, Employee Compensation Act, EDLI, and the POSH Act—explained through relatable examples from factory life. Participants also learned about essential workplace facilities they are entitled to, such as clean washrooms, proper ventilation, drinking water, canteen services, a crèche, and first aid.

Information on important welfare schemes was shared, covering scholarships for children, annual health assessments, compensation for workplace injuries, monthly support for long-term illnesses, funeral assistance, and maternity benefits. The importance of factory-level committees—grievance, works, internal complaints, health and safety, and canteen committees—was also discussed, encouraging workers to use these mechanisms to address concerns.

By the end, the women expressed feeling more aware, confident, and empowered to recognise and claim their rights at work. The session created a meaningful space for learning, questions, and shared experiences, strengthening their understanding of both protections and available support systems.
